ORDER TO THE SECRETARY 1
[March 29, 1921] (Please inquire of
Chicherin)
Reject the interview.
1 The Secretary of the Sovnarkom had written that a correspondent for the British newspaper The Daily Herald was requesting an audience with V. I. Lenin and wished to discuss “the American response to the RSFSR’s proposal on trade.” The words “Inquire of Chicherin” were written beneath this sentence.
G. V. Chicherin, in response to the Secretary’s inquiry, stated: “An interview on this matter would be premature.”
