VI. LETTERS OF V. I. LENIN
TO A. M. GORKY
(ADDITIONS TO LETTERS PUBLISHED in the "Lenin Miscellany" Nos. 1 and 2)

The five letters of Vladimir Ilyich to A. M. Gorky published here were received in the original from the Leningrad Public Library and A. N. Tikhonov by the Institute after the publication of "Lenin Miscellany" No. 2.
The first three of them relate to Nos. 11-12, the last two to No. 16.
In the chronological chain of letters placed in the "Lenin Miscellany," No. 1, these letters should stand under the following numbers respectively: the first – No. 16/a, the second – No. 16/b, the third – No. 21/a, the fourth – No. 35 and the fifth – No. 36.

1 (16a).
V. I. LENIN – A. M. GORKY.
15/IX 11 [Paris].
Dear A. M.! I wrote to you last, it must have been, two months ago – at the beginning of the school *) (which has now ended and the students have left). There was no answer – I thought, whether the "negotiations" 2) had dragged on or something had changed radically.
The other day Leshchenko 3) was here, he told me about Capri, and I was very glad to learn that the whole thing came about because of the postponement of the meetings you had planned until "after the fair" 4).
The plans, however – [Leshchenko] said – are the same on Capri: both a thick journal and a large newspaper, and also, it seems, a kopeck newspaper.
Yes, yes, now would be just the right time. The liquidators are buying (so they say in St. Petersburg, from where we received a letter today) the Kiev Kopeck and transferring it to St. Petersburg. It would be extremely important to organize a rebuff to them.
So far, we have only been able to scrape together the last money to resume *Zvezda*. I am counting very much on your help: send an article. Help is especially important at the beginning, because it will not be easy to re-establish the interrupted publication.
Did you receive and read Kamenev's pamphlet 5)? I hope that it should dispel some of the prejudices that you seem to have against its author.
In party affairs, we have a healthy mess, but still closer to a resolution.
Plekhanov is wriggling – this is before the denouement with him.
