Comrade. Obolensky!

Manukhin is the doctor who treats Gorky. Gorky asks very much that Manukhin return his things. If this is quite permissible according to the law, and if there is no objection from Mr. Krestinsky. Krestinsky (a note from him, i.e. from the Orgburo is necessary), issue it immediately. If not, tell me what the obstacle is, and I will talk to Krestinsky again.

With Communist] greetings, Lenin.

1M.F.Andreeva in a letter to V.I.Lenin dated August 23, 1920 asked to give an order to L.L.Obolensky to return to A.M.Gorky's attending physician I.I.Manukhin the things that he had deposited in the loan fund for the time of departure from Petrograd. She wrote: "Another very big request of Alexei, that you give me a note to Leonid Leonidovich Obolensky, so that he would allow to give Dr. Manukhin his things - silver and some other junk (it was 4,000 p., revalued at 8,000 p.) and gold things of his wife, sister and mother, as well as his watch and cufflinks (it was 16,000 p. - revalued at 80,000 p.), in total 88,000 p.).

The things are all more donated and valuable by recollection. Obolensky would willingly give permission himself, but he is very frightened by the censure of their department.

Be kind, give me such a note to Obolensky; that Manukhin will not misuse these things - I vouch with my head" (RCCHIDNI, f. 2, op. 1, d. 15134, l. 3-4).

Fulfilling Andreeva's request, Lenin wrote the published note, and on Andreeva's letter - a resolution to the secretaries: "Lidia Alexandrovna Fotieva or Glasser: remind me" (V.I.Lenin. Biographical Chronicle. Vol. 9. M., 1978, p. 208).
