TELEGRAMS
TO THE NIZHNY NOVGOROD
GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
25148
May 1920
Bearing in mind that the center of gravity of the supply of the
Western Front, Moscow and Petrograd with provisions currently
falls on Nizhny Novgorod, I propose to assign daily the neces-
sary number of workers, carts as requested by Volgoprod
for unloading barges, delivery of food cargoes to stations of at least
60 wagons of grain per day.

According to received information, the Nizhny Novgorod
Government Executive Committee did not load grain cargoes
on Sunday, May 30. Considering that the supply of the
Western Front, Petrograd and Moscow is carried out almost
exclusively at the expense of what is going by water, the cessation of loading
even for one day is unacceptable and criminal.
I propose to take measures to ensure that such facts do not recur in the future
and urgently inform me of the execution.

NOTE TO G. K. ORDHZONIKIDZE
Early June 1920
Comrade Sergo! I am sending you the messages delivered to me.
Please return them with your notes regarding facts: what is true, what is not true.
You are getting heated, right, quite strongly on occasion?
You should probably take assistants and direct the work more systematically.
I hope you will not be offended by my remarks and will answer frankly,
what and how you intend to correct and rectify.
Greetings! Your Lenin

TELEGRAM TO G. K. ORDHZONIKIDZE
Baku**
June 3, 1920
Received your offended letter. You are considering in vain a request obligatory for me, as distrust, but I hope that you, even before a personal meeting, will abandon the inappropriate
tone of offense.
Lenin

* The Commander-in-Chief asked the Council of Labor and Defense to cancel the instruction to transfer the 28th division from Azerbaijan to the Western Front. Attached to the Commander-in-Chief's report is a telegram from the command of the Caucasian Front, which stated: "Member of the Revolutionary Military Council, Comrade Ordzhonikidze, reports from Baku that the withdrawal of even one battalion from Azerbaijan is tantamount to nullifying all the successes achieved, and the transfer of the 28th division will put us before the necessity of abandoning the Baku oil fields."

** Printed from a typewritten copy with a note by G. K. Ordzhoniki
dze in the margins: "The telegram was received by me in the summer of 1920. Ordzhoni
kidze."
