NOTE TO THE VChK
[August 12, 1919]
To the VChK
They are in Moscow.
I request their release; send them to the places indicated by them and inform me of the execution without fail.
Chairman of the Defence Council
V. Ulyanov (Lenin)

In the summer of 1919, several counter-revolutionary conspiracies were uncovered in Petrograd Gubernia, whose participants set themselves the task of assisting General Yudenich in his offensive on Petrograd. The organs of the Cheka arrested active counter-revolutionaries in Kronstadt, some members of right-wing parties and their families. A group of persons from among the detained family members of counter-revolutionaries appealed to V. I. Lenin with a request for release, sending him a list of the arrested.
On the list there are inscriptions made by V. I. Lenin, evidently after August 12: "The VChK finds it impossible to release" and a note: "To the archive."
Later, on October 5, 1919, the presidium of the VChK decided to release some citizens named on the list, "with the obligation to go to Kazan and report there for registration with the Cheka."
