Having received your telegram, I made inquiries with the secretary of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee (such requests should be directed to the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee), and he replied to me that the sentence has been suspended and an appeal has been lodged.

I ask you to write to me, and not to my wife.

Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars V. Ulyanov (Lenin)

¹ O. V. Bukhanova sent a telegram on 1 May 1919 requesting a pardon for her son N. P. Bukhanov, who had been sentenced by the Moscow Revolutionary Tribunal to be shot for embezzlement of public funds, abuse of authority, and violation of public food supply. Prior to his arrest, Bukhanov worked in the food supply department as assistant inspector of the requisition sub-department.

On 23 May 1919, the petition for Bukhanov's pardon was heard at a session of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, and a decision was adopted: to replace execution by shooting with imprisonment for 15 years.
