Is it true that you have arrested the auditors from the Council of Defense and the authorized representative Tatarzhinskii? Explain by telegraph your action.¹

1 The arrest of Tatarzhinskii, authorized representative of the People's Commissariat of Food for conducting an extraordinary food audit and chairman of the Novgorod gubernatorial Control Commission, was reported by the assistant to the manager of the local control authority. Above the text of the telegram to the Chudov gubernatorial executive committee, Lenin wrote the following instruction to his secretary: "Chudov, Chudovo? verify."
