1/X 1918

Dear Vladimir Dmitrievich! Only this morning was the terrible news conveyed to me. I cannot travel to Moscow, but at least in a letter I want to shake your hand firmly, firmly, to express my love and that of all of us for Vera Mikhailovna and to support you a little, insofar as a person can do so in your terrible grief. Take good care of your daughter's health. Once again I firmly, firmly shake your hand.

Your V. Lenin

The letter to V. D. Bonch-Bruevich was written on the occasion of the death of his wife, a member of the collegium of the People's Commissariat of Health — V. M. Velichkina-Bonch-Bruevich, which occurred on September 30, 1918.

During this period, V. I. Lenin was in Gorki due to his state of health.
