It seems to me that the previous speaker is mistaken{41}. The masses are not such children and understand that the struggle is extraordinarily serious. They have seen how we were thrown back before, for instance in July. It is impossible to strike out these words. Under no circumstances should we pretend that we do not value bourgeois parliamentary institutions at all. They represent an enormous step forward compared to what came before. So by striking out these words, we create the impression of something that does not yet exist – absolute solidity of the stage we have attained. We know that this does not yet exist. It will exist when the international movement supports us. I am prepared to strike out the words "under no circumstances," one can keep the words "the party will not refuse to make use," but we cannot open the door to a purely anarchistic negation of bourgeois parliamentarism. These are stages directly linked to one another; any retreat can return us to this stage. I do not believe that this will cause a crisis among the masses. If by "masses" we understand completely politically uneducated people – they will not understand, but party members and sympathizers will understand this, will understand that we do not consider the positions we have conquered as finally consolidated. If we, through gigantic exertion of will, develop the energy of all classes and strengthen this position, then we shall not recall the past. But for this we need the support of Europe. And now to say that we can work under the worst conditions will produce no crisis among the masses.
