1 These calculations should be understood as follows: out of 9.4 million households that formed part of Soviet Russia by September 1918, 3.4 million households were exempted from the tax. 6 million households (9.4 million — 3.4 million = 6 million households) were subject to taxation. These households were taxed proportionally to the area of sowing, which in total sum was supposed to yield 300 million poods of grain from 6 million households, averaging, consequently, 60 poods per household.
