RESPONSE VIA DIRECT LINE TO AN INQUIRY FROM MEMBER OF THE REVOLUTIONARY MILITARY COUNCIL OF THE EASTERN FRONT K. A. MEKHANOSHIN
[July 7, 1918]

Lenin replies:
Kolegaev told me personally, then Zinoviev and many others, that he, Kolegaev, is an opponent of the present policy of the Left SR party. I have no doubt that the madly hysterical and provocative adventure of the murder of Mirbach and the revolt of the Central Committee of the Left SRs against Soviet power will repel from them not only the majority of their workers and peasants, but also many intellectuals. The entire revolt was completely liquidated in one day. Several hundred people have been arrested.

Record Muravyov's statement about his withdrawal from the Left SR party, continue vigilant control.
I am confident that if these conditions are observed, we will fully succeed in utilizing his excellent combat qualities. The struggle against the Czechoslovaks and Cossacks must be waged with triple energy.

Lenin

1 The published document is a reply to member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Eastern Front K. A. Mekhanoshin to his inquiry via direct line about the state of affairs in connection with the revolt organized by the Left SRs in Moscow on July 6, 1918. K. A. Mekhanoshin asked to inform him what position the Left SR A. L. Kolegaev was taking. In addition, he reported that the commander of the troops of the Eastern Front, the Left SR M. A. Muravyov, had declared that he renounced the title of member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party if this party was acting against Soviet power.

1917–1918

Despite assurances of loyalty to Soviet power, M. A. Muravyov attempted to raise a revolt on the Eastern Front and move troops on Moscow. However, the adventure he instigated ended in complete failure.

The Constitution of the RSFSR was adopted on July 10, 1918 by the Fifth All-Russian Congress of Soviets.

TWO NOTES TO N. I. PODVOYSKY

[July 16, 1918]

To Podvoysky
Why
did you not dispatch from Kursk 4 regiments + Asarkh's (?) regiment + Sluvis's division?
Delay is ruining us on the Czechoslovak front, and you are late! 1

[July 19, 1918]

To Podvoysky
Did not reply to the 2nd telegram, because such an appointment 2 does not depend on me and is generally hardly possible, as a violation of the entire general order.
The Czechoslovak (and kulak) danger is so serious that, in my opinion, you should
take upon yourself (and Trotsky will probably agree) a tour of the Western and Southern (German) fronts, etc., to accelerate the transfer of troops from there to the Czechoslovak front?
