In “On the Housing Question” (1872), there are several passages pertaining to the question of the dictatorship of the proletariat and, by extension, the state—which merit particular attention:
“How, then, is the housing question to be resolved? In contemporary society, just as with every other social issue, it is resolved through the gradual economic equalization of supply and demand—a resolution that, in turn, continually reproduces the very question itself, and thus amounts to no real resolution. How, then, did the social revolution resolve this question?”
