G. ROVIO. 27 SEPTEMBER 1917

there's nothing to be done about it. You must have a great deal of patience and persistence if you want to maintain any contact with internationalists in the "freest" imperialist republic.

Today I learned from Izvestia that in Stockholm there is published "Izvestia of the Stockholm Information Bureau of the Council of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies," weekly. Try to send sets of all Stockholm publications. We see nothing.

25 August (7 September). It seems that tomorrow we'll manage to send a letter. Make every effort to arrange delivery from your end. Reply without fail, even if briefly, to the address (within your country) which the comrade transmitting this letter to you (or his friend) will give you. He will also give you the cipher; as a test, I am writing a few words in this cipher and ask you to reply in the same cipher*.

P. S. Write another pamphlet, 16-32 pages, on Russia's secret diplomatic treaties: briefly, precisely, facts, facts. Such-and-such treaty of such-and-such date, month, year, contents as follows. A list of treaties. A summary. Shorter and more factual. Reply whether you will undertake it and when you send your response.

I conclude: for heaven's sake, immediately a conference of the Left, a bureau of the Left, a bulletin of the bureau, and set the second conference for 2 (1½) months hence.

Greetings! Lenin
