# FR. ENGELS. «ON AUTHORITY»
Source: PSS, Volume 33

Friedrich Engels: “Neue Zeit,” XXXII, 1 (1913–1914), pp. 10, 37. (Published in 1873.) Friedrich Engels. “On Authority,” “On the Principle of Authority” (pp. 37–39). Authority presupposes “subordination.” Small-scale production is being displaced by large-scale production. “Is it now possible to have an organization without authority?” (p. 37).
“Let us assume that a social revolution has dethroned the capitalists… In this case, will authority disappear, or will it merely change its form?” (p. 38).
Take, for example, cotton spinning mills—railways—ships on the high seas… Without authority, such undertakings are inconceivable.
