RESOLUTION ON THE ORDER OF THE COMMANDER
OF THE SOUTH-WESTERN FRONT**
November 19 (December 2), 1917
Transmit by radio to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief for
taking measures (and for checking what confidence Volodchenko deserves) and for the same to inform the military department.
* Lenin's order was written on the back of the Military Revolutionary
Committee's directive. The directive proposed that the detachment disarm
the Junkers of the Mikhailovsky Artillery School in Petrograd and use the
guns seized from the Junkers against the troops of Krasnov—Kerensky.
** In his order, the commander of the South-Western Front, General
Volodchenko, warned the troops of the front against the treachery of the Germans, who
were trying to use fraternization with Russian troops for the purpose of
reconnaissance and espionage. The order indicated that fraternization "is conducted
by the enemy according to a strictly defined system.
While in some areas fraternization is not allowed by them at all, even despite attempts
on our part to initiate such (there was a case when two officers came out of the German trenches,
including the head of the division, who stated that until the formal conclusion of an armistice, they would not allow fraternization."
