[ON THE DISCUSSION ON THE MILITARY QUESTION in the Swiss Social Democracy]
((Basler Vorwärts». Friday, March 2, 1917 (No. 52). Article (unsigned) "On the Military Question". Reprint from "Neue Freie
Zeitung" (Solothurn party organ), No. from
Monday, about yesterday's (Sunday?
February 25) meeting in Olten with reports by Schmid (Olten) and Müller (Bern). (Still,
more than 100 people unanimously "indignant" about the disputes and the danger of "splitting" due to the military question, pure theory, etc.). Schmid himself in "Neue Freie Zeitung" ("yesterday", i.e.,
March 1) publishes that he also "submits" to this, preserving
his "principled views," that the time for resolving the issue
is the most "unfavorable"...
....Not a word from the editors! ! : Only between two quotes a remark: a strange phenomenon is "surprising" because at the Solothurn congress
they say that everyone applauded Affolter violently when he said he was against the defense of the fatherland).
About the meeting in Olten (February 25)
Schmid writes that there were about 100 people, all "serious people"... "The foundation of the Social Democratic party," that of the young there were
"only two," "and of the city comrades no more than a good dozen"__ "This is indifferent to the more radical elements"... writes
Schmid.
"Basler Vorwärts" March 12, 1917 (No. 60)
Note regarding Müller's victory in the Southern quarter (Bern) 37 votes against 4 :... "Es
scheint, dass Genosse Grimm dieser Stellungnahme (Müller and Co.'s new amendment) nicht
entgegentrat, sonst wäre dieser Beschluss kaum ein fast einstimmiger"...
Justification of Berner Tagwacht (13.
III. 1917) that Grimm was "sick," that he is for the "majority"...
Berner Tagwacht 12. III. 1917 (No. 60) "Oberholzer's conciliatory proposal" (Southern quarter - Bern) to accept the majority resolution, but postpone the whole
question until communication with other parties, jointly solve them!!! *
On the back of page 21, the following unfinished note in an unknown hand: "Getreu den Beschlüssen der Kientaler Konferenz protestiert die
Versammlung aufs entschiedenste gegen die pazifistische Phrase namentlich

("True to the resolutions of the Kienthal Conference, the assembly strongly
protests against the pacifist phrase, especially if the social patriots speak of a so-called democratic peace"). . . pej).
