# TO M. N. POKROVSKY

JULY 14, 1916

Esteemed M. N.!

I have just received a letter from G. Z. with news that he has already received a telegram from you about the safe arrival of his manuscript. I am extremely worried about my own, sent registered mail two weeks ago. Please don't refuse to drop me a postcard about receipt. By the way: on page 147 it is written Owen, but it should be Owens: you will greatly oblige me if you correct it.

Thank you in advance and I press your hand.

Your Lenin

To Inessa

My dear friend! About the correspondence we'll find out.

As for Gilbo, I don't know what to say. The plan is unclear to me: who exactly is on the editorial board? (Gilbo + ??) Gilbo is very weak and will spoil everything (I'm afraid!)...

What objection could I have to placing your article in the collection? Only in favor.

I press your hand. Lenin

P.S. What's this strangeness that Radek doesn't answer you? I don't understand.

But he does answer Gregory, doesn't he?

I am sending Renner as soon as I received him. Things are bad here: mail only by donkey and once a day. In case of emergency telegraph (Tschungge, Flums)

or telephone (Tel. 2.26), but I don't yet know if it's very expensive.

I have nothing from Pokrovsky and am extremely worried.

Do you have "Under the Old Banner"? I will send it after reading if all three of you oblige yourselves to return it within 6 days.

I am settling down to write articles. Have they been sent to typesetting and what exactly? Arrange with the typography to send me one copy of the proofs at once. Send me a list of articles. Greetings to everyone from both of us!

Lenin

P.S. Send me interesting clippings from the "Hamburger Echo" and "Arbeiter-Zeitung," otherwise I've become completely impoverished as regards newspapers here.

I am sending manuscripts with note-sheets about yours (you are sinfully long. Impos-sible...) and with abridgments of Varin's (he gave the right to abridge the "non-military paragraphs" and general reasoning. In my opinion, his should be abridged even more).

It turns out, it seems, something immeasurable. This is terrible. I don't know what to do. And it is necessary to write still about opportunism (I have 1/2 ready), about defeatism and about Trotskyism (including the Duma faction + P.S.B.).

Calculate as soon as possible and as precisely as possible how much there already is.

The Italian clippings I seem to have returned to you. If not, then I left them in Zurich, can't get them before I return.

About Bukharin and Co., it would be good to send a confidential letter from the editorial board to the groups (+ to Radek??) about its refusal (because otherwise Bukharin and Co. are already openly "tearing things apart"). Or wait a week? And Radek, if he wants to have "our" exposition, let him send it to you.
