K. KAUTSKY («NATIONALSTAAT etc.»)
«Nationalstaat, imperialistischer Staat und Staatenbund». Von K. Kautsky. Nürnberg 1915. (50 Pf.). (S.S. 80).
In § 1 — «Einiges über Demokratie und Nationalstaat»
K. Kautsky nitpicks at the right-winger (Winnig) and the left-wing Gaul (from the Volksblatt in Halle) who speak of the obsolescence of the principle of «the right of every nation to national self-determination» (S. 5) (in the declaration of August 4). K. Kautsky is for the center in this matter and chews over the old stuff about the connection of democracy with the national state.
On this occasion, incidentally, against «primitive democracy» and «direct popular legislation» (8), with «ihre energischere Abart, der Massenstreik» (8) being included in «primitive democracy».
We are not for the status quo (14), but for another way out of the national framework...
«Das Proletariat kann sich nicht dadurch befreien, dass einzelne seiner Schichten bestimmter Berufe oder bestimmter Gebiete zu Nutzmessern von Ausbeutung und Unterdrückung werden. Dies bedeutet vielmehr eine Schwächung seiner Position» (16)...
and not a word about the conclusion to be drawn from this!! Sophist!
On p. 17 a fraudulent distortion of the position of the left.
And they, too (like the right), agree about the inevitability of imperialism, but demand in response «sofortige Durchführung» (17) of socialism...
«Das sieht sehr radikal aus, ist aber nur (!!!) geeignet, jeden, der nicht an die sofortige praktische Durchsetzung des Sozialismus glaubt, in das Lager des Imperialismus zu treiben» (17).
There follows the most vulgar blah about the fact that society is an organism, not a mechanism, and other such childish nonsense (with hints that «national sentiments» (18) are strong among the workers) with the conclusion that the absurdity of fighting against imperialism does not follow from the inevitability of imperialism «innerhalb dieser (kapitalistischen) Produktionsweise» (21).
Against imperialism, for other Mittel of capital expansion (besides colonies) — «Kleinbürger und Kleinbauern, ja selbst viele Kapitalisten und Intellektuelle» (21)...

K. KAUTSKY («THE NATIONAL STATE, etc.»)
«The National State, the Imperialist State, and the League of States» by K. Kautsky. Nuremberg 1915. (50 Pfennigs). (Page 80).
In § 1 — «Something about democracy and the national state»
K. Kautsky nitpicked at the right-winger (Winnig) and the left-wing Gaul (from the Volksblatt (People's Paper) in Halle) who speak of the obsolescence of the principle of «the right of every nation to national self-determination» (p. 5) (in the declaration of August 4). K. Kautsky is for the center in this matter and chews over the old stuff about the connection of democracy with the national state.
On this occasion, incidentally, against «primitive democracy» and «direct popular legislation» (8), with «its energetic variety, the mass strike» (8) being included in «primitive democracy».
We are not for the status quo (14), but for another way out of the national framework...
«The proletariat cannot yet liberate itself due to the fact that individual strata of it, engaged in certain professions or living in certain areas, will also enjoy the fruits of exploitation and oppression. This would rather mean a weakening of its position» (16)...
and not a word about the conclusion to be drawn from this!! Sophist!
On p. 17 a fraudulent distortion of the position of the left. And they, too (like the right), agree about the inevitability of imperialism, but demand in response «immediate implementation» (17) of socialism...
«This looks very radical, however, it is only (!!!) suitable for pushing everyone who does not believe in the immediate practical implementation of socialism into the camp of imperialism» (17).
There follows the most vulgar blah about the fact that society is an organism, not a mechanism, and other such childish nonsense (with hints that «national sentiments» (18) are strong among the workers) with the conclusion that the absurdity of fighting against imperialism does not follow from the inevitability of imperialism «within this (capitalist) mode of production» (21).
Against imperialism, for other means of capital expansion (besides colonies) — «the petty bourgeoisie and peasants, even many capitalists and intellectuals» (21)...
