[Between August 30 and September 5, 1915]

So—congratulations on the new member of the CC! (Alexander¹ has been coopted. Informed today).

From Radek and Grimm² nothing! Not even a reply to the telegram paid for to Radek... (Sent your letter to Grimm long ago. I hope [you] set Shklovskii on him?).

The brochure suddenly got moving (Kuzma showed mercy, having received 200 francs...)³. . . . received the proofs today.

If you have disagreements later (don't even talk about the collapse of the left. Let's be silent! We'll have time! And anyway the collapse will be of Ivan + Peter, not of the left),—telephone me, for I have agreed with Olga⁴ that she correspond with me about what I am publishing.

Regards! Your Lenin

P.S. If anything urgent about the conference⁵, telephone. In "*Nashe Slovo*" Trotsky is raving in favor of Chkeidze⁶. Have you seen it? Prepare everything and everyone against Chkeidze. Collect material.

¹ Alexander—A. G. Shlyapnikov—during the years of the imperialist world war was engaged in party work in Petrograd and abroad; was a liaison between the Russian and Foreign Bureau of the CC RSDLP.

² K. B. Radek—during the years of the imperialist world war stood on internationalist positions, showing, however, vacillation toward centrism.

Robert Grimm—one of the leaders of the Swiss Social-Democratic Party, from 1909-1918 its secretary and chief editor of the newspaper *Berner Tagwacht* ("Bern Sentinel"). During the imperialist world war a centrist, participant in the Zimmerwald and Kienthal conferences.

³ We are speaking of the brochure by V. I. Lenin "Socialism and War." The brochure was set in type at a small Russian printing shop in Geneva, whose owner was an emigrant from Ukraine K. Lyakhotsky, widely known among political emigrants by the nickname "Kuzma."

⁴ Olga—S. N. Ravich—a social-democrat. Conducted party work in Russia and abroad.

⁵ We are speaking of the first international socialist conference in Zimmerwald, which took place September 5-8, 1915.

⁶ "*Nashe Slovo*" (Our Word)—Menshevik newspaper; published with the close participation of Trotsky in Paris from January 1915 to September 1916.

L. D. Trotsky (Bronstein) during the period of the imperialist world war occupied a centrist position, lived in Switzerland, France, and America, was a contributor to, and later editor of, the Menshevik-liquidationist newspaper "*Nashe Slovo*."

N. S. Chkeidze—one of the leaders of Menshevism. Deputy of the III and IV State Dumas from Tiflis Province, headed the S.D. faction of the IV Duma.
