[November, not earlier than 13, 1914]

Werter Genosse! **

At last I have managed to find an issue of “Sentinelle” with a summary of our manifesto¹. Please return it after use.

* At the top of the letter V. I. Lenin wrote: “W. Uljanow. Distelweg. 11. Bern.”

** — Dear Comrade!

Can such a thing be printed in German? This question must clarify the conditions of your (i.e., your journal’s²) legality.

Beste Grüsse!

¹ _Sentinelle_ — organ of the democratic organisation of the canton of Neuchâtel (French Switzerland); founded in 1890. During the First World War the newspaper took an internationalist position. On November 13, 1914, in No. 265 of the newspaper, the manifesto of the Central Committee of the R.S.D.L.P. “The War and Russian Social-Democracy” was published in abridged form.

² _Lichtstrahlen_ (“Rays of Light”) — organ of the group of Left Social-Democrats of Germany (“International Socialists of Germany”). The journal was published irregularly from 1913 to 1921 in Berlin.
