Ludwig Frank, by Paul Goldmann. N. B.
...“Ludwig Frank stood on the extreme right wing of his party.... His sound
practical sense always inclined more towards positive achievements than towards any
doctrines... Despite the fact that the most irreconcilable members of his party fiercely
attacked him and the keepers of the S.D. dogma persecuted him as a heretic, he did not stray from
his path....
... One of the manifestations of Frank’s realistic politics
was the alliance of the S.D. with liberalism. Of course, the most severe adherents of the S.D. doctrine
deny such an alliance and refuse any agreement with any bourgeois party whatsoever, including
the liberal one. Frank, who, as was said, always strove only for positive achievements,
did not consider it possible to adhere to this isolation demanded by the S.D. doctrine. On the contrary,
he considered that the participation of the S.D. in the formation of a majority is the only way to realise at least
some of its demands. Moreover, his views, insofar as
they concerned pure politics and not economic questions,
properly speaking, differed little from liberal ones, and therefore
he considered a union of the two parties, in the political programmes of which about L. Frank, completely natural.

* BIBLIOGRAPHICAL NOTE ON MILITARY BOOKS.
Dr. Phil. Reinhold Günther (Hauptmann): *Heerwesen und
Kriegführung in unserer Zeit*. Berlin. 1901.
A well-written popular outline of military knowledge.
The author is, of course, a vulgar German chauvinist.
To note from the literature:
Clausewitz: *Vom Kriege*.
Friedrich der Große: *Generalprincipien des Krieges*.
Napoleon:?
Blume: *Strategie*.
Underlined in coloured pencil. – Ed.
Further on in the notebook there follows an entry on the book by Yordi, which is not included in this collection (see the introductory note on pp. 35–36), and the bibliographic note on military books (published below). – Ed.
