To:   HIS MOTHER

April 10, 1914

Mother dearest, I embrace you fondly and congratulate you and
Manyasha on the occasion of your name day. I now hope that
the summer in Vologda will be better than the winter has
been and it is, after all, the last summer! [1]

In these last few days I have caught a slight cold (that
has to happen every spring!) but am now quite well.

Very soon, early in May, we are going to Poronin again.

I embrace you fondly and hope you keep well!

Yours,

V. U.
