Kraków. 27/II. 1914.

Dear Colleague, I received your book "Immigration and Labour"* a long time ago and began trying to track down your address in order to thank you. But it turned out to be very difficult to find your address. Only today did I obtain it and I hasten to express to you my gratitude for sending the book. I have already written about it and based on it composed a short article** in our Petersburg Social-Democratic newspaper "Pravda" and shall write more. In my conviction, this work provides a wealth of valuable material for the study of capitalism, while at the same time representing, as it were, a transfer of the best methods of our zemstvo statistics onto Western soil.

The comrade who sent me your address (Mr. John Ellert) writes to me that you might be able to provide good assistance in obtaining all sorts of materials from the Statistical Bureau in Washington. Allow me therefore to turn to you with a request—of course, only if this will not trouble you too much, will not distract you excessively from your work.
