Dear friend! Today I received your letter and a letter from Popov. I cannot understand exactly where your disagreement lies and I think it is not so important. Only the voting matters, and you were right not to participate in it. That is all.

Why is it “extremely unpleasant” for you to write about fulfilling the duties of delegation representative? — I do not understand. Your quarrel with Popov is a trifle. Why are you against being a delegate??? Write, please, frankly!!

Thank you for the details regarding the conference! A comrade from the Latvian Party is here. We shall arrange with him precisely concerning their participation in our congress.

It would be very good if you could take up correspondence with Kautsky (he is a mean personality, completely without character, susceptible to influences, constantly changing his position according to ulterior motives and ill-disposed towards me because of the “money affair”: it is especially mean to pose as “impartial” or to play the role of “impartial” while being partial and embittered mainly against me after a personal quarrel with me over money. Mean!). If he asked you to write to him and if you can undertake the translation

into French of all reports and send them to him (mainly concerning April 4, 1914) — that would be very good. But, of course, this is a very complex matter and, as far as I am concerned, I am not asking you to do it. If you want — do it! (My personal opinion: it would be good to inform Kautsky and to set forth mainly and especially in detail the question of April 4, 1914 and the statistics of groups: these statistics have been partially published in the *Leipziger Volkszeitung* of July 21, 1914. If you wish, I shall send it and, if you wish, I shall help you privately to prepare a letter for Kautsky. But now it is very difficult to paralyse the mean intrigues and Kautsky is the victim of intrigues on the part of Rosa Luxemburg, Plekhanov and Co. Plekhanov is a meanest renegade, as always. Did you see my blows at him in *Rabochy* No. 7 and in *Prosveshcheniye* No. 6?*)

At the moment I cannot find the address of *Neue Zeit*. If you wish, you may write to the address of the *Neue Zeit* publishing house: Stuttgart, Furtbachstrasse 12 for Comrade Karl Kautsky.

The idiots and intriguers, with the help of Kautsky, want to pass a resolution against us at the Vienna Congress. Let them!! We cannot prevent this. But we keep calm. This lastly “reconciles” the opportunists, who also wish to win.

Your behaviour at the conference was correct and you rendered a great service to the Party. Popov writes to me that you have been ill. Your voice was very weak. What illness do you have? Please, write in more detail!! Otherwise I cannot be calm.

I cordially greet you and send best wishes. I wish you health and calm.

Yours, V. I.
