To the Editorial Office of the Newspaper “For Truth.”
[October, no earlier than October 27, 1913*. Kraków.]
Dear Colleagues!
I have just read L? 8 and cannot resist expressing my astonishment at your decision to publish an article such as “The [Meeting of] Marxists” 2 and so on!! In my view, this was the height of imprudence—and if the author, for understandable reasons, became somewhat carried away, then surely you, in your position, should have been able to recognize the utter impossibility of such a piece. For heaven’s sake, do not recklessly allow such articles to see the light of day: by doing so, you are devilishly aiding all our enemies.
It is imperative that you reprint, gradually but systematically, the articles by Petrovsky and the former “reconciliator” 3.
Best regards. V. I.
I very much request that you change my address: I have asked, I have written—yet nothing has come of it!! 4

LETTERS TO “ZVEZDA” AND “PRAVDA”
1 The date is determined by the content: JVS8 of “For Truth” was published on October 25 (12), 1913; it reached Kraków three days later, i.e., on October 27 (14). Consequently, a reply could not have been sent any earlier than October 27.
2 The article “The Meeting of Marxists” (unsigned), published in No. 8 of “For Truth,” provides a detailed account of the “summer” meeting of the Central Committee with party workers, which took place in Poronin from October 5–14 (September 22–October 1, 1913). According to K. Yeremeyev, the author of this article was M. Chernomazov, who, as would later be revealed, turned out to be an agent of the Okhrana.
3 We are referring to the articles by Petrovsky: “My Impressions” (on his journey through Yekaterinoslav Governorate), “An Unclean Means” (regarding the Beilis affair), and the article by the “former reconciliator”—N. Borin (N. Krestinsky)—“Two Moral Standards.” These articles were not reprinted in subsequent issues of “For Truth.”
4 On November 3 (October 21), Lenin returned from Poronin to Kraków.
