## LETTER TO L. B. KAMENEV
[September 7, 1912]

Dear L. B., I am sending you the mandate.¹

Remember that your address in Chemnitz is — Hauptpostlagernd*, Herrn Rosenfeld. To this address (if you do not give a different one from Chemnitz) you will receive the brochure from Leipzig.² Albert's address³: Herrn Max Seyferth (fur Albert). Leipziger Buchdruckerei. A. G. Tauchaer — Str. 19/21. Leipzig.

Your fears are unnecessary: a man from Hannover⁴ is going and Orlov⁵ — both with the language. You will have both assistants and translators.

Send me a couple of lines about receiving the mandate and about your departure.

Your Lenin

We don't have the leaflet! A scandal!!!
Ask Alexei⁶ to send us all the new publications as quickly as possible, immediately upon publication. Especially now in connection with the conference.

Yesterday I sent you a check for 200 frs. Did you receive it?

P. S. When handing over the mandate to the Germans, do not give them the papers for long and insist that they do *not publish your name*. Either K. ххх**, and if you agree, then also Kameneff.

Please bring us:

1) a complete set of "Speeches" from 1907 during the election period.

2) all stenographic reports of the III State Duma (Alexei has them; you need to select, search for, and assemble a complete set).

| Having made 2—3 small packages from these reports, you will pay at the station 1—2 frs. to a porter (to carry into the car) and for storage, and we will receive the reports sooner, cheaper, and more reliably than by slow freight. |

In Chemnitz there will be another man from Hannover (the brother of Olga Ivanovna⁷) — a very good fellow. He will find you in the hall or write to you at Hauptpostlagernd.

He speaks German and knows Orlov.

They will help you and you *will help* them before the Germans.

*— General Post Office, general delivery.
** These signs are placed by V. I. Lenin.

We are sending manuscripts to Alexei for typesetting today. Hurry up very much... *typesetting**.

## LETTER TO LAWYER J. DUCOS DE LA HAILLE

Cracow, September 23, 1912

Dear comrade, Comrade Rosenfeld came here. He told me of his unsuccessful attempt to see you: he sent you two letters by pneumatic mail, but received no answer. I am greatly anxious, seeing that our matter is not moving forward.

You undoubtedly remember, dear comrade, what agreement was reached between us: the matter will be considered won if I receive the money unjustly withheld by Citizen Zetkin by August 1, 1912.

But today it is already September 23!! And the conclusion of the bar association is still not ready!!

I find myself in a very difficult position with respect to my organization, which entrusted me with bringing this matter to a conclusion as quickly as possible. It has now been four or three months since I wrote to my organization that in the letter I addressed to you, I set the deadline of August 1 and that you responded affirmatively to this...

Therefore I ask you, dear comrade, be so kind as to answer me as quickly as possible and finally set for me the *nearest possible* date when I will absolutely be able to have in my hands the conclusion of the bar association.

Accept, dear comrade, my brotherly greeting

Vl. Ulyanov

P. S.

Allow me to remind you of what agreement was reached between us, that is, that the conclusion should contain:

1°. the basic documents in full, the complete text of these documents. (Among the principal documents there should, of course, be numbered: 1) the text of the agreement concluded in January 1910; 2) the refusal of Mehring and Kautsky; 3) the answer of Zetkin (and Kautsky) of November 18, 1911; 4) the letter of Mrs. Ignatiev, confirming the will of the deceased, etc.), 2°. a detailed analysis of these documents and especially the letter of Mrs. Zetkin of November 18, 1911,¹ and 3°. a reasoned conclusion to the effect that Citizen Zetkin must return the money to me and that I have the right, in case of her refusal, to have recourse to the ordinary courts.

My address:

Herrn Wlad. Ulianow.
47. Ulica Lubomirskiego. 47.
Autriche. Cracovie. Krakau.

The question of the presentation of the conclusion (that is, whether it will be presented to Citizen Zetkin by you or by me) remains unresolved. I am personally convinced that the chances of achieving success without a trial will rise considerably if it is precisely you who present this conclusion; on the contrary, such chances will be weak if I present it.

## LETTER TO I. R. ROMANOV¹
[October 1912]

Dear Comrade Romanov!

I very much ask you to do me this favor: find a Liège lawyer according to the enclosed "description," and ask him to write on a piece of paper the name of that Stuttgart lawyer (living in Germany in the city of Stuttgart — Stuttgart) whom this Liège lawyer once indicated to Rosenfeld.

Very important!

All the best. In the workers' curia our people are winning.

Regards to friends. Your Lenin

## LETTER TO L. B. KAMENEV

Cracow*, December 26, 1912

Dear L. B.! From your registered letter, received by me today, it is clear that Mr. Ducos de la Haille himself recognizes that he broke the agreement by proposing to conclude a new one.

In our (mine and Gregory's) opinion, one should try to do this, of course, being now twice as cautious with the one who violated the agreement.

Please go, without delay, on Monday itself, to Ducos de la Haille and propose to him a [agreement of such]** content: 1) The text of the conclusion is worked out together by] agreement... *** Ducos will immediately answer whether he accepts or not, or with what changes. 2) Only Ducos signs, if it is difficult for him to find 2 others, as he previously undertook. 3) The deadline for presenting Ducos's conclusion to us — three days after we agree on the text, and in any case no later than January 15, 1913. 4) Ducos receives then immediately 300, and if we win — 5000 — that is, the former condition.

If Ducos does not agree to this, it is necessary to appeal his refusal to issue the document to the council of sworn attorneys: look in Bottin and the like, where Chambre des avocats or Conseil [des avocats (ou du] Bureau) de Paris etc.... ****
*keep... most scrupulously...* You will prove everything before

*— Cracow.
