LETTER TO K. ZETKIN
Copy
Paris. 18. XI. [1911]
Esteemed Comrade!
Your letter of 16. XI \ which I received today, gave me no
satisfactory answer whatsoever, so that, unfortunately, I am forced to resort to civil proceedings.
As regards the justification for your protest against being relieved of the duties of arbitrator, it is clear only that you now have absolutely no right to continue holding the money and are unconditionally obliged to return it to me, since you received the money from me only for the purpose of submitting the question to the decision of an arbitral tribunal of three specific persons.
I am very sorry – since I very highly value Kautsky's theoretical activity and your revolutionary position in the German Social-Democratic Party – that I am forced to disclose to the civil court the unheard-of non-observance of the rules and unlawful actions of the former arbitrators (most likely for a perfectly understandable reason: because of matters more important for the Social-Democratic Party). But I can do nothing else, since your silence meant that you rejected my peaceful proposal.
With comradely greetings N. Lenin
Translated from the German

In a letter of November 16 (N.S.) 1911, K. Zetkin reported that after K. Kautsky refused the duties of "holder" of the fund transferred to him, F. Mehring, and K. Zetkin for safekeeping, according to the decision of the January Plenum of the Central Committee of the RSDLP in 1910, she was also relieving herself of the duties of "holder."
