NOTES ON AN ARTICLE BY AN UNKNOWN AUTHOR *.
[Second half of 1910. Paris.]
1) “a couple of years” is not in keeping with the Russian idiom. — 2) “branding as madness” is not in keeping with the Russian idiom. — 3) Long, repetitive phrases—such as “in order to say this, in order to constantly and continuously link, in order to… etc.”—must be recast in shorter, more concise form. — 4) In my view, the entire style needs to be reworked into a more accessible, popular tone—and for that purpose, the whole text should be rewritten from scratch. —
In essence, it is also necessary to add further discussion of the party line as defined by the resolutions of August 12 and subsequently undermined by the resolutions of October 1.
It is also necessary to elaborate on our appeal (versus: our reliance on) the Central Committee for assistance, in the spirit of my first draft, No. 1.
1 It has not been definitively established which specific appeal Lenin and the Bolsheviks addressed to the Central Committee, nor which “first draft of Lenin” is being referred to here. It is quite possible that Lenin is referring to the letter he sent to the Central Committee of the RSDLP on May 2, 1910, on behalf of the majority of the editorial board of the Central Organ (“Social-Democrat”)—see above, p. 60.
