Dear Lidia Mikhailovna!

I am sending you a postcard that I have purchased for you with a plan of Bern and with marked essential addresses.

I strongly advise you to go to Bern: you need treatment, and only Kocher can cure you. I have made inquiries of all sorts, consulted medical literature (the thick book of his son, Albert Kocher, on Basedow's disease), consulted with doctors in Bern and I speak from experience.

Write in September a letter to Prof. Kocher requesting that he set an exact time for the appointment (and indicating that you have only such-and-such a sum at your disposal: otherwise there will be an unpleasant haggling afterward with the kulak-like Frau Professor). He will answer you and set the time for the appointment. Then go. Living in Bern is cheap. We will give you letters to Shklovskii and Shenderovich: they will help. After a few months you will cease to be an invalid and become a person again.

I press your hand and until we meet soon.

Your V. I.
