LENIN MISCELLANY
leadership of the entire party (while the Central Committee is not
assembled after its disruption by the liquidators).
The work capacity of the Central Organ is devilishly important - and at such a time to "start from scratch,"
"introduce to the work" a newcomer, to argue instead of working. Do understand that the Mensheviks, relying on the plenum
(and they formally have an indisputable right to rely on it)
argue positively about every word of the resolution, about every
omission in the resolution, about every incident (even the smallest one)
at the plenum, in order to find loopholes.
Well, how can we imagine in the role of a pendulum a person who was not at the plenum and has not worked with us, in the centers of the R.S.D.L.P. for a long time? Why,
it is absolutely impossible!
This means stopping the work— and at such a time when it is necessary to decide at every meeting
the most important questions.
After all, X will be forced to say:
"I don't know" to thousands of arguments and quibbles of the Mensheviks (who are diabolically clever at using any fraktioneller
Dreck 3), as you know perfectly well). Well, is such a person conceivable at such a time?
No.
No.
We do not demand the excessive from P. S. D. [Polish Social Democratic Party]. We know its strengths, its needs, the requirements
of Polish work.
We do not burden Varski and do not tear him away from Polish literary work. But you absolutely must leave him to us in the Central Organ, as we agreed on it during the plenum. Without Varski we are absolutely unable to "overcome" the time of crisis - to achieve
a change in the composition of the Central Organ.
When the crisis is over, when the composition of the Central Organ changes,
then... but even then, for God's sake, not X.
Then give
Karski 4), if it is impossible even then to leave
Varski*
Now, however, Varski is absolutely, absolutely necessary.
I shake your hand.
Greetings to Rosa [Luxemburg]
Yours, Lenin.
