The reconciliationist-unificatory fog is beginning to disperse here. I am sending you a reprint from No. 12 of *Social-Democrat*.228 From it you will see that things have come to a real fight with the Golosovtsy. Now the question has come down to this: do Plekhanovists exist in the world, do party-affiliated mensheviks exist in the world, or are all mensheviks Golosovtsy, while Plekhanov is simply a lone figure.

We must conduct intensified agitation for the withdrawal of Plekhanovists from the Golosovtsy groups, for the replacement of a Golosovtsy representative in the Foreign Central Committee by a Plekhanovist, and so forth—and through such agitation test in practice whether anything will come of our unification with the Plekhanovists, or whether absolutely nothing will result.

The local group of Bolsheviks is preparing to begin such agitation; when it comes out, you will receive news of it.

The "Vperedists" are holding something like a congress here: they say Bogdanov and Stanislav have arrived. What they are undertaking is unknown. They are behaving stupidly and, probably, the Central Organ will have to fight with them too after their first appearance in print. There was a letter from Russia saying that Alexinsky wrote to the Moscow Vperedists about their plan to set up their own school for 50 people (where did they get the money?), and the Vperedists in Moscow, it is said, are inclined toward a general, party school.

There is no correspondence with Gorky. We heard that he has become disillusioned with Bogdanov and understood the falseness of his conduct. Do you have any news from Capri?

There are few forces in Russia. Ah, if only one could send a good worker from here to the Central Committee or to convene a conference! But everyone here is "a thing of the past."

Be well and write.

I shake your hand. Your Lenin (Switzerland)
