Where is Gorky? I wrote to him on Capri (villa Blaesus). Will it reach him?
I shake your hand firmly.
Your Lenin.

LETTERS TO A. V. LUNACHARSKY
3 5
1 G. Plekhanov developed his view on the trade union movement in the articles: “Mannheim” in No. 9–10 of the journal “Contemporary Life” for 1906 and “Critique of the Theory and Practice of Syndicalism” in Nos. 11 and 12 of the journal “Contemporary World” for 1907.
2 This refers to the collection of articles by Lenin (Vl. Ilyin) “In 12 Years. Volume One. Two Trends in Russian Marxism and Russian Social-Democracy. St. Petersburg, 1908” (in fact the volume came out at the end of November 1907).

To Anat[oly] Vas[ilyevi]ch.
[End of January – beginning of February 1908. Geneva]1
Dear An[atoly] Vas[ilyevich]!
One important matter. Do you know Vasily Vasilyevich Karyakin in Florence? How can he be found? Please send me his address or some indication of how to find him, through anyone in Florence. Please answer immediately.
I await news from you (and an answer) concerning Proletary and your plans in connection with it.
Your Ulyanov.
1 Justification of the date: the first proposal to take part in “Proletary”, now transferred abroad, was made by Lenin to Lunacharsky in a letter of 13 January 1908 (letter 6), and in a letter of 27 February (letter 9) Lenin urges Lunacharsky to send the article on Ferri he had commissioned. Who V. V. Karyakin was has not been established.

To Anat[oly] Vas[ilyevi]ch4:
Dear An[atoly] Vas[ilyevich]! Why have you not sent the article on Ferri? We wait and wait. Please send it immediately. If, contrary to expectation, it is delayed, then do without fail drop a line at once to let us know how we are to proceed with No. 22.
I shake your hand. Your Lenin.
1 Justification of the date: the article on Ferri, signed “Voinov” and headed “Crisis in the Italian Workers’ Party”, was printed in No. 23 of “Proletary” of 11 March (27 February) 1908. “No. 22 of “Proletary” appeared on 4 March. In order that Lunacharsky’s article might not miss the setting for No. 22, Lenin’s letter from Geneva to Capri, where Lunacharsky was then staying (with Gorky), would have had to be sent 6–7 days before 4 March; most likely it was sent either on the eve or a couple of days before the next letter of 27 February, in which Lenin once more reminds him about the article.
The letter was probably addressed to Gorky for transmission to Lunacharsky.
