Two points here are important. They cannot be omitted. The first point is the indication of the economically more progressive strata of the bourgeoisie. This is essential. Even more essential is the indication of the bourgeois intelligentsia. In bourgeois parties there is an increase in the number of bourgeois intellectuals, who attempt to reconcile serf-owning landlords with the laboring peasantry and stand for the preservation of all manner of remnants and survivals of autocracy.

That Trotsky's amendment is no less Menshevik, that it expresses "the same," i.e., Bolshevik thought, one cannot but agree with this. But this thought is expressed by Trotsky hardly better. When we say "simultaneously," we express the general character of contemporary politics. This general character is, without doubt, such that circumstances force us to act at once both against Stolypin and against the Kadets. The same applies to the traitorous policy of the Kadets. Trotsky's insertion is superfluous, because we are not catching individual cases in the resolution, but are defining the basic line of social democracy in the bourgeois Russian revolution.
