NOTE ON O. I. VINOGRADOVA’S CORRESPONDENCE
“POTEMKIN DAYS IN ODESSA”¹
[June 1905]

1 O. I. Vinogradova’s (codename: The Beggar) correspondence had been sent to Geneva without a title. Lenin’s editorial revisions date to the end of the 27th page of the manuscript. Lenin crossed out pages 23 through 27, which were devoted to an account of the state of affairs within the Odessa organization during the Potemkin Days. Vinogradova’s correspondence was published in 1905 as a separate pamphlet (by the Central Committee of the RSDLP) in Geneva. The title page bore the inscription: “The Beggar. Odessa Days and Potemkin.” Lenin’s editorial revisions are reproduced on page 17 of the pamphlet; the phrase “out of seven members” was replaced with: “out of seven people.” In 1906, the pamphlet was reissued legally in St. Petersburg—with minor alterations—in the edition of “Nash Golos.” The author adopted the pseudonym N. Rostotskaya for the pamphlet, and the title was likewise changed to: “Potemkin Days in Odessa.” Lenin’s editorial revisions were not incorporated into the legal edition.
