EXCERPT FROM
"TI MES" вым and his gang. The fury of the Cossacks, Jewish pogroms, shoot-
ing in the streets of newly "amnestied" politicians, looting carried out by the Black Hundreds with the help of the police. -
everything is put into action to suppress the revolutionary struggle.
The Tsar has greatly helped the revolutionaries, confirming their assessment
of a false уст\пки, an assessment of the vile comedy of the "liberal" mani-
festo. The Tsar himself wants to provoke a new decisive struggle. So
much the better! All the work of social democracy, all the energy of the proletariat
will now be directed at preparing the next onslaught, to destroy the monster of Tsarism, which, dying,
attempts for the last time to stir up the dark instincts of the dark masses.
The more zealous Trepov is now, the more certain the complete collapse
of all Trepovism and all the Romanovs.
In No. 2 of "Proletary" of November 7 (October 25), in the section
"From Social Life" is placed a reverse translation from English ("Times" of November 4) of the appeal of the St. Petersburg Soviet
of Workers' Deputies, called in "Times" the "Central Strike Committee". The translation of the appeal from English was done
by Lenin.
M. Olminsky threw out the beginning (the first page) from the
manuscript of Lenin and wrote the following introductory part to the translation of the appeal: "The Central Strike Committee in Petersburg
issued on October 18, the day after the publication of the manifesto5,
an appeal, which we give in reverse translation from English (aTimes» / X /)".
The discarded part of the manuscript has not been found; the preserved
page of the manuscript begins with a half-phrase.
