1 This document represents a brief record of the contents of
individual chapters and parts of chapters of the second part of Lenin's work "The Agrarian Question and 'Critics of Marx,'" the part that was first
published in the journal "Education" No. 2 in February 1906. The calculation of pages of the manuscript by chapters and by parts of chapters gives reason to think
that this document relates to the time of Lenin's preparation of the second
part of his work for publication in "Education," i.e., approximately
to December 1905 — January 1906.
Two circled notes at the end of the manuscript represent an accounting
of the amount of time for quick reading of this part of the work in
manuscript. The first note refers to chapter V and the first part of chapter VI and denotes the result of Lenin's experiment of "quick
reading to oneself," on the basis of which he concludes (in the second
note) that reading the entire manuscript of this part of the work will require "about 2 hours."

MATERIALS FOR A SERIES OF WORKS
"NEW DATA ON THE LAWS OF DEVELOPMENT
OF CAPITALISM IN AGRICULTURE"

This section contains Lenin's materials for a series of works
that he intended to publish in successive issues under the general title "New Data on the Laws of Development
of Capitalism in Agriculture." The first issue of this series was
the pamphlet "Capitalism and Agriculture in the United States
of America," which was completed by Lenin by October 1915
and in January 1916 sent to A. M. Gorky for publication (see
"Letters to Relatives," ed. 1954, letter from M. A. Ulyanova
of October 7 (September 24), 1915, p. 444, and "Lenin Collection"
XXXIV, letter to A. M. Gorky of January 14, 1916, p. 527).
Lenin intended to publish a similar pamphlet about Germany (see "Letters to Relatives," ed. 1934,
letter from M. I. Ulyanova of October 22 (9), 1916, p. 448) on
the basis of data from the German agricultural census of June 12, 1907.
The material for this work was ready for him much earlier (in 1910-1911). The incomplete manuscript "The Capitalist System of
Modern Agriculture," article one, published in the "Lenin Collection" XIX, represents the initial
literary treatment of this topic. The present collection publishes a general plan for processing the data of the German
agricultural census of 1907, from which it is clear that the initial
processing of these data was planned by Lenin in the form of two
successive articles. The first of these was the above-mentioned
work, published in the "Lenin
Collection"
XIX,
the second was not written.
In the present
Collection is published Lenin's notebook "German Agrarian Statistics"
(results of studying the data of the German agricultural census of 1907),—
material that formed the basis of the first written work about Germany and was also to be used
for the later planned second work on agriculture in
Germany. In addition to Lenin's works on Germany, in the same
series of works, are also the other two notebooks of Lenin,
printed in this section of the Collection: "Vescher's Agrarian
Statistics" and "Austrian Agricultural Statistics".
