... Revolution presents an excellent [, though costly,] school of political education. ... the people parts with the feelings of a slave [and serf] instilled in it by the old order. ...

... Contradictions [accumulated over] tens and hundreds of years in socio-political life....

However, social-democracy cannot content itself with merely establishing the spontaneity of revolution. If it limited itself [exclusively only] to THIS, it SHOULD [immediately] have [had to] leave the stage of political life...

... the course of revolution educates citizens in general, transforming the impoverished "muzhik" of yesterday into a freely-thinking and freely-acting [man] citizen today.... I repeat, in the consolidation of the proletariat into a single and powerful class conscious of its unity [für sich], clearly posing before itself the socialist ultimate goal, consists the greatest educational mission of social-democracy...

... All these artificial methods in the hands of a good school pedagogue are rational...

... But God preserve the revolutionary from the temptation to don [the] costume of a school pedagogue! What is correct and rational in one pair of hands becomes [questionable] grotesque and ridiculous in another's* expediency [is replaced by] is supplanted by absurdity...
