Bazarov, Fedorovich* et cetera, et cetera—if "Molot" [and] Belov haven't
fooled me?—you give [it to] [Molot] Belov. What does this mean?
*Znaniye*
Nolin—for the soul, and [Molot] Belov—for the body, is that not so? If
our meeting does NOT take place, then you will take the time to clarify
for me in a letter in detail what the matter is. It is inconceivable for illegal people or
members of the RSDLP in general to conduct the complex and troublesome
business of publishing. That's why
Molot' [and] Belov (and Petrov is no worse than
[Molot] Belov) are overtaking us.
And I very insistently warn that this will continue to be the case in the future, because [Molot] Belov has
businessmen entirely devoted to the cause, while the "editorial committee"
at [Znaniye] Nolin's (one can guarantee) will not be able to
devote 1/100 of their strength to this cause. We will talk, judge, deliberate,
meet—we have been occupied with this praiseworthy affair since summer, for half a year,
while Molot! [and] Belov [and] Petrov will be handling affairs. I'm not saying this as
a reproach, because it's ridiculous to reproach in this way—it's the inevitable
result of circumstances. This will change 1) either with freedom—
then everything will change in general; or 2) if Pyatnitsky takes on the matter
just as Belov and Petrov do, which is beyond Pyatnitsky's strength,
because a multitude [of forces] of his attention are diverted to something else.
P. S. I received No. 2 of *Rabochy*.4 I'm going to write to you in detail
about the Feuilleton. The author should not take on such topics:
the result is some kind of "sentimental" socialism, very dangerous indeed.
The discussion concerns the publication of Lenin's pamphlet "To the Rural Poor,"
published in 1905 by "Molot" under the title: "N. Lenin—Needs
of the Countryside. (To the Rural Poor.) St. Petersburg. 1905" in a somewhat
modified edition.
8 Petrov—apparently, the publishing house of M. Malykh.
a When speaking of [his] sister, Lenin is referring to A. I. Ulyanova-Elizarova.
4 "*Rabochy*" [The Worker]—a popular organ of the Central Committee of the RSDLP (see note 71 to Coll.
Works, Vol. VIII, p. 488).
* LETTER ABOUT A LAWSUIT BROUGHT BY THE TSARIST
OWNER OF THE PRINTING HOUSE — SCHOLZ. *
X 05. [Geneva.]
Esteemed Comrade!
The matter with Scholz has taken such a turn that the possibility of a major loss for the party due to the fault of the
head of the printing house is becoming obvious.

Omission: should be—Teodorovich. Ed.
** At the top of the letter Lenin wrote: "Sent 17 X 05". Ed.
