QUOTE FROM THE POEM BY H. HEINE "THE DISPUTATION"
elucidating in practice the tactical and organizational tendencies
of both parts. In this respect, we are satisfied, as satisfied as can be,
with the New-Iskra conference. It marked the irreversible
decomposition of New-Iskrism. The revolution is shattering their tactical
tailism. Their "organization-as-process" is becoming a universal
laughingstock. Plekhanov, "enlightened," apparently, by the conference not only regarding its organizational sense, but also regarding the principledness of the New-Iskrists, is breaking away from them on one side. Akimov, declaring all their words about democratism, initiative, etc., etc.* a "hollow phrase" ("Latest News" No. 235), is breaking away from them on the other side. The Third
Party Congress has more closely united one side. The conference itself
has broken the other side. It remains for us only to advise the
precocious** "reconcilers": study,*** comrades, the history of the split, examine the reasons for the failure of Plekhanov's
reconciliations, do not pour new wine into old wineskins!
