The resolutions of the Central Committee of May 20, 1905, were adopted in Geneva immediately after the arrival of Central Committee members Krasin, Lenin, and Postolovsky from the Congress in London. As can be seen from the proviso accompanying the resolutions, the appointment of Plekhanov as editor of the party's scientific organ and representative to the International Socialist Bureau was made conditionally. The correspondence between Lenin and the Central Committee below (see letters 4 and 5 on pp. 479-485) shows that the Central Committee members in Russia, disregarding the said proviso, insisted on the appointment of Plekhanov, despite Plekhanov's open statement ("Iskra" No. 104 of 14 (4) June 1905) that he could only be a representative in the International Socialist Bureau from both parts of the party. After this, for the recognition of Plekhanov as a representative in the International Socialist Bureau, Lenin demanded a definite statement from Plekhanov that he recognizes the 3rd Congress, joins the party, and obeys its decisions. See letter 4, pp. 479-484.
