LETTER TO G. D. LEITAIZEN ABOUT THE MANDATE TO THE GUESDIST CONGRESS. APRIL 19, 1905

LETTER TO G. D. LEITAIZEN
suspicions, tales of the strength of minority groups, etc.
We, of course, do not respond to all these antics worthy of the famous League congress. In essence, it is worth noting only two
points. If the congress takes place, *Iskra* says, it will only be as a
conference of isolated currents. In other words: the new-Iskrists
recognize themselves as separated from the party, recognize the split as
accomplished. We would always prefer a frank recognition of this to a
nasty secret split. But how is it, gentlemen: you yourself recognize yourself as a part of the party that has broken away from another
part, and at the same time modestly hold on to the titles and ranks
of the whole party ("C.O.", and "Council")? [At the same time, do you retain
the money collected from foreign comrades for the whole party? Retain
the printing house belonging to the whole party?! Is this honest?
Second. *Iskra*, as usual, recognizes the party as split when it comes to the centers reporting to the party, while
recognizing the party as united when it comes to the power
of the centers over the party. So it is now. On the one hand, "isolated
currents." On the other hand, "only the Council can convene a congress."
Very good, gentlemen! But why is your "Council" silent?
Why didn't it respond to the C.C.'s statement of 4 III 05?
Why not a word about the Council in the *N.Iskra*? Aren't the members
of the party right to ask: well, does their Council exist?
Is it able to meet and make decisions?

* LETTER TO G. D. LEITAIZEN ABOUT THE MANDATE TO THE GUESDIST CONGRESS.
19/4 05. [Geneva.]
Dear L.! It is impossible to obtain a mandate from the
O.C. to greet your congress. I first thought that our congress
would open before 22. 4 and it would be possible to get a mandate for you from the congress itself, but this did not work out; our congress is dragging on. Refer
to the *Vpered* editorial board and give greetings to the congress in its name
and through it—in the name of the R.S.D.L.P., this will be the best.
The note about Martov's lies will do. Write from the congress.
Yours, V. Ulyanov.
P.S. Kautsky in Jß 29 *Neue Zeit* lied again about *Vpered*
and *Iskra*! It would be good for you to "correct" him in your speech at the congress.
