No. 3150 Here and below Lenin lists the numbers of *Iskra* in which were published correspondence and reports about the demonstrations of workers and students that took place in various cities of Russia.

1. Two hundred people stopped work and put forward "unfounded demands."

α. [Even by Russian law "stopping work" is merely a matter for court proceedings.] β. Who judges what demands are "unfounded"?

The factory manager's assistant.

2. They began by force to stop the machines and "meanwhile," as the police expressed it, "all the workers stopped work."

[The question arises: in what did the violence consist? If everyone left, how could one fail to stop the machines? In leaving, they stopped them—where is the "force"? *Schutz der Arbeitsstillegung*??[163]]

3. Two squadrons were summoned (150?? × 2 = 300) + a detachment (100–150???) + 200 constables [*Ergo*,[164] probably > 500 men].

4. The workers (3,600) occupied the street and stopped the streetcar.

5. A police attack (with a demand to disperse) was repelled with stones.

[From behind fences and from the crowd. A hail of stones. The workers proved they fight well.]

6. An armed detachment was summoned—gunfire from the crowd.

7. Three volleys—1 killed + 8 wounded (1 died).

8. Companies of the Omsk infantry regiment. [Stones from the courtyards].

"Incidental Causes"

1. Although partly—"propaganda of anti-state and anti-social ideas"(!)

– "harmful false doctrines"

– "dark ideas and hopes."

2. But—"existing conditions are favorable"

– "provoke and sustain discontent."

3. (What conditions are these?).

4. "Unfortunately, we know too little."

["Regret"…]

5. (α) "Workers tear themselves away from their village roots"… "they live in… a special socio-ethical atmosphere, created… thanks to… the concentration of masses, bound together not by living social interests, but by the commonality of machines."

(β) "The villager tears himself away from the village with its modest, but independent socio-economic interests and relations."

6. A vile sally against foreigners.

[["crude and greedy."]]

7. (γ) Capitalism: minimum wages for maximum labor… helplessness in the face of unemployment.

8. Program: "state tutelage."

"To Assert."

9. "Like"… 1861 (!!)

"Wise persuasion."
