Note: dated 27 II 1901

27/II 01 [Munich].
Dear P. B.!

I received both of your letters and passed them to V. Ich. [Zasulich's] letter from Italy. I don't yet know the contents of this latter letter, as I passed it on through Blumenfeld. We are leaving tomorrow with this latter [person]: he through Vienna further on¹), I through Vienna to Prague on my own business²).

Forgive me for writing briefly in view of meetings and preparations.

A letter came from Dietz saying that he will n o t p u b l i s h the declaration³) (on union with liberals), that it is dangerous ("union," groups etc.), and whether it wouldn't be better in general for us to use secret printing?⁴) We are very shocked by this news of the flighty idiot Dietz. We have decided (provisorisch)⁵) f o r n o w to leave "Zarya" as it is (for now!)— we will print the rest in Geneva.

It seems d i p l o m a t i c r e l a t i o n s have been renewed with the Parisians.

Molotov [Parvus] has a l r e a d y written an article on Finances (for No. 3 of "Iskra"). He promised a Foreign Review.

There is still not enough material for No. 3 of "Iskra".

Judas (the calf) [Struve] has not yet left. One of these days, it seems, he is finally — thank God — clearing out. With him "all is well."

From home: everyone writes about student d i s o r d e r s. Brother [Martov] writes that he will arrive soon.

The second "N" has not yet been in Russia.

I shake your hand firmly. I will write without fail more substantively when I return (I will spend 4-7 days there) and get back into the routine.

Yours, Petrov.

¹) Blumenfeld left for Russia on assignment from the "Iskra" group and was soon arrested.

²) Through Prague Vladimir Ilyich conducted legal correspondence with his family. He traveled there in order to send through the consulate authorization for his wife (N. K. Krupskaya) to leave for abroad.

³) See letter 25, note 1.

⁴) Provisorisch — temporarily.

V. I. LENIN — P. B. AXELROD.
