3 "The number of owners of agricultural machinery in 1855 was 55, in 1861 236, and the number of those working with them 1,205. In 1871 both these categories were counted together, and the total number was 2,160, 50% more than in 1861; in 1881 it was already 4,222." (Bulgakov.)
4 Lenin's excerpts from Sushon's book will be published in the next collection on the agrarian question.
5 Bulgakov quotes from D'Avenel's book "Histoire économique de la propriété, des salaires des denrées et de tous les prix en général depuis l’an 1200 jusqu’en l’an 1800". Paris, 1894, I vol., p. 181. * CRITICAL REMARKS ON THE WORKS OF S. BULGAKOV AND F. BENZING.
On p. 273, Vol. II, footnote 2, Mr. Bulgakov once again grossly misquoted. The third column of his table does not refer to "large-scale farming," as he states in the heading of this column, but to all farms in general (Untersuchungen etc., S. 573, Anhang*. Ill)2.
The second-to-last column of Mr. Bulgakov's table [to the percentage] shows not the debt percentage of "average farms" (as Mr. Bulgakov says]), but the average size of land ownership in small farms. (L. c., Anhang, V, S. 575). The last column shows not the debt percentage of small farms, but the average size of land ownership in large farms (ibidem). Mr. Bulgakov confused — incredibly, but factually — the tables of the cited original and "mixed" data on the size of land ownership with data on the debt percentage.
Can Benzing's calculations (S. 145 n[ndj ff.) be used to determine c/v and its changes?
Estate = 310 ha (240 ha Acker + 70 ha Wiese) \
Better to take, although not entirely accurate, Benzing's own figures, S. 171 *\
Once again: how Mr. Bulgakov quotes.
He refers to S. 77 of Benzing, where Benzing says that agricultural machinery plays a smaller role in increasing production than industrial machinery.
But this is Benzing's introduction to the chapter, the result of which, S. 99, gives a significant increase in production due to agricultural machinery.
Mr. Bulgakov cites Benzing. I 32, 48, 44.
