Note: From 11 XII 1900.

11/X1I [1900, Munich].
Dear P. B.!
Thank you very much for the prompt delivery of comments on the note
about the split *). I have made the corrections you requested, but could not
completely remove the words about the merits of Rabocheye Delo—it seems to me
that this would be unfair to an opponent who has not only misdeeds before social-democracy.
Poletaev2) informed me of the news, which greatly pleased me,
that you have now become somewhat free from kefir and could come to visit us for a while.
That would be great! - in terms of arrangements, I don’t think there will be any difficulties, a room can be found weekly.
You have a passport of a Swiss citizen, after all. I still expect (still, because
I have been waiting for both friends for a long time and unsuccessfully).
Aleksey [Martov] 3) writes that he is "eager," but various circumstances are delaying him somewhat.
The other friend 4) hasn't written for some time,—but I don’t think this could indicate anything
very bad.
By the time they arrive, both
Iskra (in 1-2 weeks) and Zarya (Dietz has hired a second typesetter
and is driving things fast, hurrying us.
By the way, will you have anything for this issue of the journal *) ?;—some things will become clear
regarding transportation (oh, a difficult question!) and regarding materials,
and then a general meeting would be extremely desirable.
I dream about this very much.
V. I. LENIN - P. B. AKSELROD.
*) Maybe we could put together something from what you wrote about Liebknecht and was thrown out of the newspaper.

How is the article by young Adler 5)?
Is he writing?
When will it be ready?
Please, hurry him up with a letter and - if correspondence burdens you, or if there is a large loss of time from Umweg'a 6) Munich-Zurich-Vienna, - then give him Lehman's address
(Herrn Dr. Med. Carl Lehman, Gabelbergerstrasse, 20a München. On the 2nd envelope Für Meyer),— and we will give him your address and we will demand an answer from him.
We want to print Zarya in 1000 copies] for Russia and 500 for abroad.
I look forward to the chronicle, - and then a meeting.
Your Petroff.
For Gurevich:
Please, take care of such a thing: we need to get a good Zurich address, through which Efimov (typesetter
at Dietz) could correspond with Geneva, i.e. an intermediary,
transfer address.
If you can, please send it to me as soon as possible and in any case drop me at least two words immediately
in response.
I shake your hand firmly and send greetings to Vera Pavlovna.
Your Petroff.
*) Vladimir Ilyich writes to Axelrod about the corrections that Plekhanov demanded in a letter to Lepin (see letter 20).
*) Poletaev - Nikolai
Ernestovich Bauman, a social democrat who began working in Kazan back in the first half of the 90s. In 1897
he was involved in the case of the "St. Petersburg League of Struggle for the Emancipation
of the Working Class."
After 22 months of imprisonment in the Peter and Paul
Fortress, he was exiled under police supervision to Vyatka province.
He escaped from exile and emigrated abroad. Here he participated among the supporters
of the Emancipation of Labor Group at the congress of the "Union of Russian Social Democrats"
in
April 1900 and in Lenin's negotiations with
Plekhanov, then joined the organization "Iskra" and was one of the most active practitioners, organizers of the Iskra supporters.
He repeatedly traveled illegally to Russia on behalf of "Iskra."
In February 1902 he was arrested in Voronezh province. Sent from Voronezh to Kiev,
Bauman was involved in the case of the Kiev organization
"Iskra," but in August 190*2 with 9 comrades he escaped from the Kiev prison.
He again hid behind the borders.
At
the second congress of the R. S. - D.
R.
P.
he participated as a delegate from Moscow (Sorokin)
at the congress of the "League of Russian
Social Democrats" from the group "Iskra" and "Zarya" (Sorovsky); in 1904.

P. B. AKSELROD.

he arrived in Russia and in June he was arrested and brought to trial in the case of the Moscow Committee of the R. S. - D. R.
P., he was held in prison until October 17
1905, when the revolution freed him from prison.
The next day, October 18, he was killed by the Black Hundreds.
Bauman's funeral, which gathered more than 100 thousand people who accompanied his body, was an outstanding
event of the 1905 revolution.
*) Yu. O. Martov was delayed in Russia by work on establishing
connections for "Iskra" with Russian social-democratic organizations.
4) The other friend - A. N. Potresov.
*) Axelrod, meeting with the young Adler, suggested that he write an article on Austrian affairs for "Iskra."
But the article never appeared in the pages of "Iskra."
•) Umweg - circuitous route.
