To Podolsk, Moscow Province. Maria Alexandrovna
Ulyanova. Kedrovoy House
10/V. 00.

I have just received your letter of the 8th, dear mama, and am sitting down at once to reply. I am very glad that permission has come through for a meeting with you, and of course I shall certainly take advantage of it; I cannot leave here immediately, unfortunately, because I would not want to have to return here again, but in order to settle financial matters and certain business with editorial offices I must stay here another 5-7 days or thereabouts. But this is of course not important—whether I arrive a week later or earlier makes no difference; I agree in general with your arguments and Anya's (by the way: *merci* for the work on urban statistics I received just today), and I think I shall do as you advise, only I must decline to make a personal trip to St. Petersburg, and I shall already be asking you to make the trip, if you manage by Thursday the 18th, or if you don't manage, by Thursday the 25th, depending on when we see each other 194.

Until we meet soon. Your V. U.
