To the town of Podolsk, Moscow Province. To Maria Alexandrovna
Ulyanova. City Park, dacha no. 3
7/VIII. 99.

I received, dear mother, your letter of the 15th of July. Many thanks for it and for fulfilling the request concerning Anatoly*. I hope to see him in the next few days:
they say he is quite poorly, blood is coming from his throat terribly strongly, even pieces of
his lungs are being coughed up... The Governor was in the village of Ermakovsky, and Anatoly was given permission to go to Krasnoyarsk, but now he himself is not inclined to go.

Today we are expecting guests: Gleb with his wife and Basil from Minusa. Gleb, they say, has received permission to transfer to the railway, to take a position as an engineer. Of course, he will take advantage of this to save up some money for the journey. Otherwise it would not be so easy for him and Basil to get out of here, and in winter it would be altogether impossible.

We have not submitted any petitions at all,—in any case, it seems we shall now have to wait until the 29th of January.
